The desire to provide financial assistance to needy children and young people suffering from cancer in a most efficient and unbureaucratic way, was decisive that the charitable institution "European Foundation for Needy Children and Young People Suffering from Cancer" (European Foundation) has been founded in January, 1997 by Friedhelm Gruber and Dr. Markus Hasler.

The non-profit status of the European Foundation has been recognized by the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein on February 4, 1997. That means that the European Foundation in accordance with the new Foundation Law must be subject to external supervision by the Foundation Supervisory Authority (STIFA).

The tasks within the European Foundation are clearly defined:

-	The Foundation Council manages the business of the Foundation and represents it.
-	The protector with his duties and powers has to accomplish, in cooperation with the Foundation Council, the supervision of the fulfillment of the foundation purpose as well as the administration of the Foundation's assets..
-	The audit authority, as executive body of the Foundation, verifies once a year, whether the accounting and the annual financial statement have been carried out according to the Liechtenstein law and whether the foundation assets have been managed and appropriated in accordance with the purpose of the foundation and in conformity with the provisions of the law and the foundations documents.

The funding is raised through donations and various activities like sportive and cultural events.

The assets of the European Foundation are kept in gilt-edged investments and only the income will be distributed to serve the Foundation's purpose

Since 2004, six non-profit associations have been founded on the initiative of the European Foundation in the countries Liechtenstein/Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Russia and Lithuania. All bear the name "Golfing with Heart - Association for Needy Children and Young People Suffering from Cancer" and are responsible for the organization of the charity golf tournaments in their country. www.golflenmitherz.com

The net income of each "Golfing with Heart" tournament is increased by the European Foun¬dation, financed by the income of the Foundation's assets, and is, according to the statutes, solely used for the financial support of needy children and young people suffering from cancer.

The distribution of the tournament-incomes happens in close cooperation with the relief organizations on site and the financial support itself is disbursed directly to the concerned families in the region of the venue.
